“Memories of Recess”
This is a painting of days long passed, of a time when children of all ages learned & played together. It is a time when most of the children walked to school, sometimes for miles, & were happy to do it. This is the time of the two room school house. This particular structure, Poplar Ridge School, still stands in Trinity, NC. The school operated from 1879-1952. The children are engaged in activities that were typical of recess in the mid to late 1930’s.
